


Springfield, Mass. - December 11, 2008 - Led by juniors Steve Headley and Nikki Hay, the Springfield College men's and women's track and field teams defeated Westfield State tonight in the school's second-ever indoor meet in its new Field House. Springfield, Mass. -- December 6, 2008 -- Springfield College hosted its first indoor track and field meet this afternoon at the new Field House on campus. Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn performed the honors (see photo) as the official starter for the women's 5,000 meters, the day's first running event. Never before had Springfield College hosted an indoor track and field meet in its 123-year history. Today's meet featured five teams and was non-scoring.
Springfield, Mass. – December 4, 2008 – For the first time in its 124-year history, Springfield College will host an indoor track meet this weekend in the Pride’s brand new Field House which opened in September. In its inaugural meet, the Pride will host the first ever Springfield Invitational as men’s and women’s teams from Rhode Island College, Westfield State, Eastern Connecticut State, and WPI will travel to compete at the Alden Street venue on Saturday. Because of that, Track & Field will take an additional upswing at Springfield College in 2008-2009. Indoors, SC will host two track meets in the new fieldhouse. In addition, SC will host both the New England's and the ECAC's outdoors in Division III in May.
Springfield College has produced 57 All-Americans in track & field. Junior-to-be Steve Headley of nearby Wilbraham, Mass. finished fourth in the 100 and became an All-American at the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wis.
Ken Klatka, enters his 33rd season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2008-2009. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 397 wins, 135 losses, and two ties for an impressive .745 winning percentage.
