Manhattan Virtual Classroom
The Manhattan Virtual Classroom is a password protected, web-based virtual classroom system that includes live chat; a variety of discussion groups; areas for the professor to post the syllabus and other handouts and notices; a module for organizing online assignments; a grades module; and a unique, web-based email system open only to students in the class. Manhattan was developed at Western New England College and it is used by many professors at Springfield College. Manhattan is free, and is released under the GNU General Public License.Manhattan offers a paperless, organized way for professors to assign work, receive completed work from students, and respond with feedback. At the end of the semester, Manhattan holds a complete record of the work submitted by each student, and the professor’s feedback to their work. Students can "hand in" work any day of the week at any time of the day and receive the professor’s graded reply as soon as the paper is graded, not on the next class day. The Manhattan Virtual Classroom can be accessed from anywhere on the Internet.
