The Springfield College School of Social Work hosted a new student orientation and reception on May 10. New students had the opportunity to meet each other and faculty members as well as current students, to learn more about their program of study, to begin considering field internship options, and to register for classes. SSW Student Group, Helpers Helping Helpers, Addresses Compassion Fatigue in Social Workers

A group of Social Work students have created a Facebook page designed to educated people about Compassion Fatigue in an effort to promote awareness and to provide others with an opportunity to lobby for social change.  The page includes self care techniques, videos and links to the Social Work Reconstruction Act. SSW Faculty Member Participates in NYT's Sunday Dialogue

Joseph Wronka, Ph.D., took part in the New York Times discussion, "Sunday Dialogue: Do We Live in a Less Deadly Time, or Not?". His response focused on structural violence, which Wronka describes as, "a system placing profit over human need resulting in social problems like extreme poverty, lacks of security in old age, access to health care, and socially useful work at reasonable wages."
